The CITY OF OWENSBORO, KY has an internship opportunity for Pavement Management Worker

Mission: The Engineering Department is dedicated to providing the citizens of Owensboro with a safe, efficient, and reliable roadway, a properly operating storm drainage system, and a safe and healthy environment. These goals are achieved by implementing the most up-to-date design and maintenance methods and procedures, by specifying state-of-the-art engineering materials and equipment, and by assuring compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Public Improvement Specifications and Federal and State regulations. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Aid in the implementation of a street inventory, pavement management program, drainage inventory, and/or GPS
  • Aid in evaluating distresses in each street block by using a predefined rating system
  • Take field measurements for street blocks, define curb and gutter types, and sidewalk types
  • Assist Engineering Department and Street Department personnel in a variety of engineering-related functions

Candidates will:

  • Possess at least one year of degree related work in the field of Civil Engineering or other related field
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be team oriented
  • Open to working outside in all weather conditions, walking long distances daily, lift/move up to 25 lbs., stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Effectively communicate in person and via phone/radio
  • Have basic knowledge of computers, digital camera, and other technology

Interns will be trained by the City and required to work 7 a.m-4 p.m., M-F during the summer months. The internship position is a paid, non-exempt position. Applications are due no late than March 1, 2009.
